A Shot at Success
One key aspect of empowering is to open up avenues of opportunity to those who may be homeless or at-risk. The Barista is an initiative that does this directly; it's a job training program for homeless and at-risk youth in Burlington, ages 16-22.
The Barista will soon take place in the New Moon Cafe venue. New Moon's traditional espresso equipment and fast-paced Cafe atmosphere make it the perfect site for students to learn authentic Barista skills - from pulling amazing shots to creative drink presentation to conversational customer service.
It's not our desire to reinvent the wheel, so 150 is seeking out a key affiliation for this initiative with a network called Kitchens with Mission (a division of FareStart in Seattle). FareStart is the most successful foodservice job training program for homeless and at-risk individuals in the US; and KWM has developed training methods, curriculum, and success metrics that have proven successful in other programs throughout the country. 150 and The Barista are excited to continue forming our program with the good folks at Kitchens With Mission and FareStart.
